SPIE Optical Systems Design

SPIE Optical Systems Design will take place from April 12 to 16, 2026, and is one of the leading international conferences in the field of optical systems, coatings, and photonic technologies. Researchers and industry representatives will discuss current developments in thin-film technologies, filter design, and infrared optical systems. Conference topics include optical design and engineering, advances in optical thin films, optical fabrication and testing, illumination optics, computational optics, and optical instrument science, technology, and applications.

Fraunhofer IST will be represented with three technical presentations:

Wednesday, April 15, 2026, 10:50-11:20 a.m.

Control and compensation of substrate curvature during double-side coating process

Stefan Bruns

This article discusses the control and compensation of substrate curvature during the double-sided coating of thin glass substrates using magnetron sputtering, including monitoring and control via the MOCCA+® control software.

Thursday, April 16, 2026, 9:20-9:40 a.m.

Microstructured ultranarrow bandpass filter for fluorescence detection in smart farming applications

Dr. Florian Gebert

A microstructured filter system with ultra-narrow bandpass filters (<1.5 nm) for detecting weak plant fluorescence signals for applications in smart farming will be presented.

Thursday, April 16, 2026, 11:10-11:30 a.m.

Advances on magnetron sputtering for high performance infrared optical coatings for the LWIR range

Dr. Florian Gebert

The presentation showcases advances in robust, environmentally stable infrared coatings for the LWIR range (4.5-14 µm), developed as part of an ESA-funded project.

With these contributions, Fraunhofer IST showcases current research on precision thin-film processes, optical filter systems, and high-performance infrared coatings for industrial and space-related applications.
