Evaluation of sustainability performance using key figures and analyses

The success of a company is increasingly being influenced by its sustainability strategy. Escalating sustainability requirements on the part of customers, politicians, and financial markets are reflected in ESG ratings and rankings. In these, sustainability performance in the areas of environment, social, and governance (ESG) is measured by means of corresponding key figures. An essential component of this assessment is the life cycle assessment, which takes into account the entire life cycle of a product or service and quantifies its environmental impact. In combination with a materiality analysis for sustainability, companies can thus ensure that they address the relevant environmental and social issues in their sustainability strategy.

Development and implementation of customized sustainability strategies

In collaboration with our clients, we determine sustainability strategies for the entire company or its subdivisions and define quantifiable goals as well as the measures and technologies required to achieve them. Material analysis plays a crucial role in evaluating the environmental impact of different resources used in production. We develop customized methods and tools that quantify sustainability performance along the entire value chain. We advise companies on the successful implementation and strategic management of sustainability and develop customized training modules to embed sustainability within the workforce in a comprehensive and specific manner, establishing life cycle assessments and related methods within the company.

Our commitment to research clusters

In addition to climate change, circular economy and resource scarcity play a central role in the sustainability strategies of businesses. Closing the material loop to return materials into the cycle at consistent quality is only possible in a few cases today. This is precisely where we come in – with the Fraunhofer Center Circular Economy for Mobility CCEM in Wolfsburg. We develop single-source technologies for circular materials, analyze and evaluate these materials and processes with regard to their sustainability performance, and derive from this the technical targets for further process and product optimization.
