Optimum adhesion and interfaces for your products

Only through adhesive bonding and coatings ranging from lacquers and paints through to metallization can materials be transformed into high-quality technical products. Particularly in the case of plastics, the surface is not reactive enough, which very often leads to problems in the adhesive bond. It is therefore important to adapt both the microstructure and chemical composition of the surface in such a way that an interface is created which is optimized for the subsequent process. This enables new functional material composites which are characterized by very high adhesion and long-term stability.

Customer-specific process development and surface analysis

The employees at the Fraunhofer IST have acquired many years of expertise in the pretreatment and functionalization of complex surfaces. We apply industry-oriented sustainable electrochemical processes and atmospheric pressure plasmas in order to develop an optimal process chain for our customers. Our comprehensive knowledge of surface characterization, process analytics and simulation enables us to develop the appropriate system solution for your problems. For the validation of the results, we are able to draw on a wide range of inspection and testing procedures.

From the optimal surface to production

We provide you with support up to the optimum production process, from pretreatment and functionalization, the construction and integration of systems, through the adaptation of the process chain, all the way to process assurance. Our focus is thereby on sustainable and resource-saving technologies.
