Lower Saxony Day 2026

The Lower Saxony Day is one of the state’s largest events and brings people from across the entire state together. The focus is on interaction, exchange, and showcasing social, cultural, and scientific diversity. Numerous initiatives, institutions, and organizations demonstrate what makes the state unique and how it is actively shaped.

The event will feature various themed zones, including the Braunschweig Zone. It showcases the city’s diversity, ranging from volunteer work and sports to culture, science, and innovation. The Fraunhofer IST is participating there as part of the Braunschweig Zone at the joint booth of the ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. (engl.: Research Region Brunswick). The Research Region is an association established in 2004 comprising universities, federal research institutes, Helmholtz Institutes, Fraunhofer institutes, research institutions of the Leibniz Association, museums, libraries, the Braunschweig University Hospital, and other scientific institutions. It has developed into one of Europe’s leading research hubs.

At the joint booth, Fraunhofer IST will showcase its research in surface engineering and thin films to a broad audience and demonstrate how applied research delivers concrete solutions to current challenges. Visitors will gain insights into research processes, have the opportunity to ask questions, and experience science as a driving force for the economy and society.
