Salon der Wissenschaft 2026
The Salon der Wissenschaft (engl. Salon of Science) will take place again in Braunschweig on June 3, 2026, offering an open platform for direct exchange between science and society. The aim of the event is to bring research from the region to life for a broad public and to promote dialogue between researchers and interested parties.
The focus is not on traditional lectures, but on personal conversations in several parallel discussion rounds. Visitors have the opportunity to talk directly with scientists from the Braunschweig area about current topics such as sustainability, climate protection, digitalization, healthcare, mobility, and education. Alternatively, the conversations can be followed via headphones.
The event places particular emphasis on exchange, understanding, and networking. The Salon der Wissenschaft is organized by ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. in cooperation with the City of Braunschweig.

Without smartphones or glasses? What would our world look like without optical coatings?
Dr. Philipp Farr
They are everywhere and yet invisible: ultra-thin optical coatings in smartphones, glasses, and satellites. Without them, displays would be dazzling, cameras would fail, and measuring devices in satellites would not work. Dr. Philipp Farr takes you behind the scenes of these "hidden champions" and shows how his team is shaping the future layer by layer with such high-precision coatings.
