Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2026

From October 20 to 22, 2026, the international hydrogen industry will gather at the Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg. The trade show and conference is one of the world’s leading events for hydrogen technologies and brings together companies, research institutions, and experts across the entire hydrogen value chain. The focus is on new technologies and solutions for the production, storage, and transport of hydrogen, fuel cells, materials, and the industrial use of hydrogen.

Also participating is the Fraunhofer joint research project HySecunda, in which Fraunhofer IST is involved alongside other Fraunhofer institutes and the Fraunhofer Academy. HySecunda develops practical and scalable solutions for the market ramp-up of green hydrogen and its derivatives in South Africa and the entire SADC region. The project focuses on technology development, certification, market development, and capacity building.

In particular, Fraunhofer IST contributes its expertise in developing cost- and resource-efficient solutions for electrolyzers. This includes innovative materials and technologies, sensors for hydrogen detection, as well as barrier and functional coatings designed to extend the service life of components and reduce their costs. Furthermore, Fraunhofer IST is developing a training and education concept that supports the development of professional competencies while fostering long-term cooperation with local partners.

Visitors to the trade show can learn about HySecunda, the latest research findings, and approaches to a sustainable hydrogen economy, and engage in conversation with the participating Fraunhofer institutes.

You’ll find HySecunda and Fraunhofer IST in Hall B7 at Booth 7E39.

Florian Scheffler, an expert in sustainable factory systems and hydrogen technologies, will also give a presentation on the future of climate-friendly steel production.
