    E-MRS Fall Meeting 2018

    In a lecture, Hunter King, PhD student at the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST, presents his research results on the ”effect of the doping level on crystallite fraction of as-grown nanocrystalline silicon layers (nc: -Si: H) by hot wire CVD” during the symposium on ”Monolithic and heterogeneous integration of advanced materials & devices on silicon” of the E-MRS Fall Meeting.

    16th International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering PSE 2018

    The International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering will take place for the 16th time this year. The biennial PSE conference is a well-established forum for discussing the challenges, recent developments and new knowledge in the field of plasma as well as ion- and particle-beam assisted surface modification and thin film technologies. It is equally about the basics and applications of plasma technology. The main focus of this year's PSE is ”MEMS in our everyday life” and the role of plasma processes in the development of these microelectromechanical systems MEMS. The Fraunhofer IST participates in the exhibition of the conference on September 18 - 19 as part of the joint booth of the competence network INPLAS and and provides numerous contributions and posters to the scientific conference program.

    The Fraunhofer Science Campus will take place in September of this year in Braunschweig and Hannover. During the three-day event, female students of MINT disciplines gain an insight into different research fields and the work in applied research.

    35th EU PVSEC 2018

    For the 35th time, the specialists of the photovoltaic solar industry will meet at the EU PVSEC to discuss new concepts, trends and developments in science and industry. At the international conference, Madeleiene Justianto, PhD student in the group ”hot-wire CVD” of the Fraunhofer IST, presented her research results on the deposition of intrinsic amorphous silicon layers for heterojunction solar cells using hot-wire CVD by presenting a poster.

    8th Wetzlarer Herbsttagung ”Modern optics production”

    Stephen Brückner, scientist at the Application Center for Plasma and Photonics of the Fraunhofer IST will discuss his research results about the fact that atmospheric-pressure plasmas can be considered as a promising alternative to low-pressure plasma techniques widely used for the treatment of optical surfaces in his lecture on ”Atmospheric pressure plasma as inline-capable surface treatment in preparation for cementing and adhesive processes” at the Wetzlarer Herbsttagung which takes place for the 8th time this year.

    International Conference on Space Optics ICSO 2018

    The development of optical coatings for aerospace applications has become indispensable in the research work of the Fraunhofer IST. At this year's International Conference on Space Optics ICSO, Dr. Michael Vergöhl, head of the department “Low Pressure Plasma Processes“ presents his research results regarding the uniformity and wavefront control of optical filters and thus complements the scientific program of the 4-day conference in Chania, Greece. In his talk the scientist also gives insights into the development of a bandpass filter centered at 670nm applied on a curved lens surface. Virtually no spectral shift of the passband position on the lens surface coated by the magnetron sputtering system EOSS® shall occur.

    8th Nano Conference 2018

    The Fraunhofer IST contributes to the scientific conference program of the 8th Nano Conference with one presentation. Hanno Paschke, long-term employee of the Center for Tribological Coatings at the branch office of the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST at DOC Dortmunder OberflächenCentrum GmbH in Dortmund, will give a lecture on ”Nanostructured multiphase coatings for wear reduction under thermal load conditions”. He will discuss nanostructured multiphase coatings, which withstand high thermal load conditions, e.g. at hot forming processes, reduce wear, and are capable to preserve or even optimize their mechanical properties.
