Cooperation with the TU Braunschweig
The Fraunhofer IST expands its expertise in the field of surface technology through close cooperation with the Institut für Oberflächentechnik und Plasmatechnische Werkstoffentwicklung (Institute for Surface Engineering and Plasma-Technology Materials Development, IOPW) of the Technische Universität Braunschweig.
Award-winning
Scientists of the Fraunhofer IST are awarded the Technology Transfer Prize 2009 from the Braunschweig Chamber of Industry and Commerce for their successful work on the development, application and transfer of the material composite diamond-coated ceramics - DiaCer® for ceramic seals. One year later, the awarding of the Science Prize of the Stifterverband (association for the promotion of science) follows.
Selected Place of Ideas
For the cultivation system for stem-cell research “Plasma im Beutel” (Plasma in a bag), the Fraunhofer IST receives the award of “Selected Place of Ideas 2011” in the nationwide innovation competition “365 Orte im Land der Ideen“ (365 places in the land of ideas).
Application Center for Plasma and Photonics
Under the motto “Two Fraunhofer institutes - two application centers”, the festive inauguration of the new application centers of the two Braunschweig Fraunhofer institutes IST and WKI takes place. The Fraunhofer IST Application Center for Plasma and Photonics in Göttingen has set itself the goal of utilizing customized plasma technology in order to develop innovative solutions for the application areas of hygiene, the environment, health, bioengineering, energy technology and production.
New member of the institute management
Professor Dr. Christoph Herrmann, Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the TU Braunschweig, accepts the call of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and, on 1st November 2018, becomes a member of the institute management of the Fraunhofer IST, alongside Professor Dr. Günter Bräuer.
