Details on the apprenticed profession

At the Fraunhofer IST, physics laboratory assistants determine the properties of materials and technical systems through tests and series of measurements. For this purpose, they plan experimental set-ups and perform experiments with the aid of diverse measuring equipment. They document, analyze and interpret the obtained results and prepare them for e.g. the scientists. Furthermore, they independently operate the coating facilities with which functional coatings are produced using physical and chemical processes. Every two years, the Fraunhofer IST allocates two training places for the profession of physics laboratory assistant.
