Photocatalytic water purification

Using photocatalysts that oxidise organic and inorganic contaminants in low concentrations, forming the corresponding mineral salts, is an especially sustainable method to ensure the quality of drinking water and to protect bodies of water from excessive contamination. Hybrid water treatment with photocatalytic filters and screens is increasingly gaining importance, especially for the reduction of pharmaceutical residues, bacteria and trace elements.

A setup to determine the water purification performance according to ISO 10676 Active Oxygen” is currently being planned at Fraunhofer IST.
