High-resolution microscopy and surface imaging

Numerous microscopy methods are available at Fraunhofer IST, covering a wide range of different magnifications: beginning with the simple stereo magnifying glass, followed by various optical microscopes with high-quality digital imaging, confocal laser microscopy that supports optical 3D representation and measurement, tactile profilometry for the 2D and 3D representation of surfaces, scanning electron microscopy with up to 100,000x magnification and finally, atomic force microscopy (AFM) that achieves the highest lateral and vertical resolutions (< 1 nm).
