Surface-layer treatment of high-temperature materials

The Fraunhofer IST has developed surface-layer treatments which significantly improve the friction and wear behavior of of high-temperature materials.


Robust thermoresistive sensor technology for warm forming

In order to better understand tool-wear processes in warm forming, a forging die is coated at the Fraunhofer IST with a thermoresistive and simultaneously wear-resistant thin-film system which, in direct contact with the glowing steel blank, measures the temperature distribution in the mold.


Thin-film sensor technology in mixed-friction-loaded contacts

The Fraunhofer IST, in collaboration with its partners, is developing a wear-resistant thin-film sensor system for the long-term stable measurement of temperatures in tooth-flank contacts which are subject to mixed-friction loading.
